Walberswick

2018-2022

This collection is inspired by the coastal landscape of Walberswick in Suffolk. Walking along the beach, I was captivated by the colors and textures - from the deep blues of the sea to the golden sands and grassy dunes. The changing light and tidal movements create an ever-shifting palette that I've interpreted through textiles.

The collection includes both wall hangings and three-dimensional vessels, all created using hand-dyed fabrics, felting techniques, and machine stitching. Each piece captures a different aspect of this beautiful coastal environment.

About This Collection

Inspiration

Walberswick is a coastal village in Suffolk, known for its beautiful beach, dunes, and marshland. As you walk past the beach huts, the green grass and yellow wildflowers give way to sand and pebbles. The eye is then drawn to the blue of sea and sky. These natural transitions of color and texture form the basis of this collection.

Techniques

The wall pieces are created using hand-dyed cotton fabrics, machine pieced and quilted. The vessels are made using wet felting techniques, incorporating wool, silk fibers, and fabric scraps to create texture and visual interest.
